André Rieu, "The King of Waltz"
On August 19th we shipped 83 books to various parts of the world! The overseas copies are shipped by surface mail, so they will take 2-3 weeks to get to you. We shipped the books from Germany. After announcing our action to order the books through us, we found that the books were heavier then initially anticipated. This would increase the shipping costs. Germany offers better (overseas) mailing rates and hence we shipped them from there. Elke Freitag (Germany) and Doug Whalen (USA) helped us out with the shipping issues. Thanks a lot!!

In Germany we also met Elke and Nino and we enjoyed an afternoon together.
On July 22nd, 2010 André took part in a three hour marathon interview. This interview was held in his castle and was broadcast live on Radio 4, the Dutch classical channel. At the same time the interview could been seen on the website of the radio program. You not only see André and the interviewer Maartje van Weegen, but also nice pictures of Maastricht and the surroundings of the castle.

In the Dutch RTL4 program Boulevard of Monday August 30, 2010, Pierre tells a bit more about the illness of his father André Rieu. Doctors predict that this discomfort lasts for two to three weeks, so in a week or so he will be back to work. A bit of rest, medicine and comfort from the people around him is all he needs. During the second half of August 2010, the Dutch newspaper "Algemeen Dagblad (AD)" released a book called "André Rieu, King of the Waltz". This book describes the 30 year career of André with his Salon Orchestra and later with the Johan Strauss Orchestra. Also included is a DVD with highlights of his concerts, and a 20 minute peek behind the scenes. This is never before seen material, primarily recorded during the period of the South African Road Soap.

There is hardly news of André at this moment. He is still spending lots of time walking his dogs and playing with his grandchildren and recovering from his malady. To "ease" the time to November 18th 2010, where André plans to play again in Antwerp, Belgium, we have added three new videos for your enjoyment.

André recently had to cancel his first tour to the United Kingdom and Ireland. In the past he has performed there before. We all know the DVD from the Royal Albert Hall. A few of you may remember his appearance in the 1998 "Lesley Garrett Tonight" show. Here she sings together with André. Click on the picture to the left to see the performance.
Time for amusement. Classical music is often performed by musicians sitting quietly on their chairs, staring at the musical stands. The group CANON de PaGAGnini proves otherwise...

On Wednesday October 20th 2010, the German ZDF broadcast the concert "Roses from the South" as recorded on the island Mainau. Click on the picture to the right to see an impression of this DVD and our report and videos of the island and concert.

On Monday November 1st, 2010, Onno Hoes was inaugurated as the new mayor of Maastricht. On Wednesday Onno visited André in his studio. Click on the picture to the right to see various video footage from L1 and RTL Boulevard of these events.

On Sunday November 7th, 2010, the local Limburg TV station broadcast the magazine "L1mbourgeois". In this item, Jo Cortenraedt speaks with André while he is rehearsing again in his studio. Also Jo speaks with Onno Hoes, the new mayor of Maastricht. Click on the picture to the left to see this interview.
On Monday November 15th, 2010 André appeared in a short item in the program Leute Heute from the German ZDF television. Here we see him rehearsing for the upcoming Christmas special.

Finally, on November 18th, 2010: the concert in the Antwerp "Sportpaleis", we all have been waiting for! During his speeches, André did not mention his sickness or absence. Before the show he was very stressed. On stage he appeared to be himself again and afterwards André said in a Twitter message:
"Just arrived home. It was a great show and I really have the feeling that I am back! Can't wait for the next show! It felt so good tonight."
Two items worth mentioning: André has a fourth grandchild, a granddaughter named "Fleur" from his oldest son Marc and his wife. Fleur was born in August 2010. We knew about it for a while, but we wished to give André the honor of announcing the news first.
Second item: Mirusia sang a new song: "Don't cry for me Argentina", with a new hairdo.

On Sunday November 21st 2010, the Dutch TV station TROS broadcast an episode of the Ivo Niehe show. In this show there is a long interview with André and Pierre about the past period. The interview contains pictures from the Antwerp concert, where André performed again for the first time after his illness. Click on the picture to the left to see this interview.
On Sunday November 28th, 2010, the local Limburg TV station L1 broadcast another episode of L1mbourgeois. Jo Cortenraedt interviews André after his successful series of concerts in Mexico City. A unique interview, André is still recovering and declined all other requests for interviews. Click on the picture to the right to see this interview.

On November 28th, 2010, the UK TV station "Channel FIVE" broadcast a lengthy interview with André, called "The André Rieu Story". A number of people from the music industry discuss André and the JSO and the (type of) music he plays. Click on the picture to the right to see the interview. On Saturday December 18th, 2010, André Rieu appeared in the Today Show on the MSNBC channel in the USA. They speak with André, Kirsten, Pierre en several musicians.

On Sunday December 19th, 2010 Mirusia gave a small concert during the Dickens festival in Drunen, a small town in the province of Brabant in The Netherlands. She also presented her new CD "Always and Forever" to the Dutch public. Click on the picture to the left to see this charming performance.
On Monday December 20th, 2010, the program "Koffietijd" (Coffee-time) from the Dutch RTL4 was broadcast from André's castle.

On December 20th, 2010 the Platin Tenors performed at the Cologne Christmas market. Two of the tenors live in Cologne and they were very honored being invited to sing. Click on the picture to the right to see this performance.
In November 2010, André appeared twice in programs on the UK TV station ITV 1. First he performs "Roses from the South" in the Alan Titchmarsh show and next he has an interview in the "This Morning" show and plays another few melodies. Many of you will have seen the big white tent on the webcam of the Vrijthof in Maastricht (located behind the Ferris wheel). This tent houses the ice sculpture festival themed around Maastricht and its most famous son André Rieu. This ice sculpture exhibition is part of "Magical Maastricht", a series of winter events in the month of December. On Monday Sept. 20th, 2010, Pierre announced that André was still not recovered enough to do the tour of UK/Ireland and Australia/New Zealand. Both this Monday and the Tuesday following, Pierre appeared in numerous news/gossip programs to explain what's going on. We have selected some of these programs for you. In the brief news item from the local Limburg TV station L1 last week, it was mentioned that the full interview with Pierre would be broadcast on Sunday September 26th, 2010.

On Friday October 1st, 2010, André will celebrate his 61st birthday.
Due to a health problem, André has to take a rest. He may enjoy the magnificent view from his castle overlooking the river Maas, but he does not look cheerful....
