UPDATE: Three weeks ago the WDR crew started the swap action with a coffee cup. After three weeks of swapping articles they now have a yacht worth €49.000 and the gold ring politely declined by André. One more week of swapping to go! At the end of the fourth week, the value of the last item will be donated to charity. We will keep you informed!

We will follow André from the first rehearsals after his sick leave until the first concert of November 18th, 2010 in Antwerp. In the second episode we look back to the Maastricht 2010 concerts. Holland gets into the finals of the World Championship Soccer. Combined with a heat wave, unusual steps had to be taken. In the third episode of "The World of André Rieu" we will follow André and the JSO during the recording of "Rosen aus dem Süden" on the island Mainau and we will see how orchestra members look and feel at 5AM in the morning, just before the TV recording of the New York Today show. The fourth episode starts in South Africa. André visits the HoutBaai music project and decides to invite them to Maastricht. From a small wooden class room to eight performances for 10.000 people! Mexico City. That's the theme of the fifth episode. Although the people are still crazy after the concert, there were problems before it. Rough handling during transport, damaged a lot of instruments and replacement had to be organized. Click on the picture to the left to see the Mexican after concert party.

March 2011: Our thoughts are with the Japanese people. Elke and Nino Freitag had contact with our dear Japanese fan friends Hideo-san and Mihoko-san Kogawa. This is what Hideo mailed: "My wife and I are safe. Japanese are in worst situation now. Tokyo and our city Urayasu /Chiba are far from the epic center but the level of this earthquake is so big, that our house and city are damaged. We can stay at our house, but it is big trouble for us".

 Latest news: Hideo and Mihoko left the Tokyo area to stay at family in Western Japan.

On March 2nd, 2011, Mirusia appeared in the program "En dan nog even dit" from the regional Dutch TV station TV Oost. This interview coincided with local elections, the reason for that small discussion. Mirusia is definitely preparing for a career after André...

André gets used to this. He won the BUMA Export Award 2010 for the artist with the biggest CD/DVD sales outside of The Netherlands.

This time the award is presented by Ali B. one of best rappers in The Netherlands. He has to hurry to catch André on Maastricht Airport before his departure to the concert in Munich (Germany).

We know that André has many fans, many unknown, some famous themselves. A little while ago, Anthony Hopkins contacted André Rieu with the request if André could play a waltz he had composed.

On Friday April 15th, 2011, André and the JSO appeared in the Madiwodovrijdag-show on Dutch television. This show is hosted by Paul de Leeuw a well known singer/comedian/presenter. Click on the picture to the right to see this nice interview and hear Paul sing with André and the JSO.

The Brazilian fans are very anxious to welcome the Maestro to South America.

But he did not yet announce such a concert tour! In the meantime they celebrated already the 8th fan friends get-together on the 9th of April 2011. This time in Curitiba in the State of Paranà, Brazil.

On Thursday May 26th, 2011, André and Pierre appeared in the Dutch TV program “De Wereld Draait Door”. Here they discuss the invitation from officials in North Korea to perform for 200.000 people in the capital Pyongyang.

Pierres Hobby

What’s this, Pierre smiling and happy about a lot of rust? Yes, he is a keen collector of WWII memorabilia and specializes in cars and trucks. Unfortunately after 60-70 years in storage these items are not in showroom condition anymore. Currently there is an exhibition of Pierre’s collection in the National Liberation Museum 1944-1945 in Groesbeek. Click on the very happy Pierre to get a glimpse of his “rusty” collection.

Amsterdam ArenA 2011

In the Pentecostal weekend of

June 11, 12 and 13, 2011, André Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra performed again in the Amsterdam ArenA, with the replica of the Schönbrunn Castle. Three concerts, 600 brass players, pipe bands. With the invitation of Jan Smit, André likes to attract a younger audience. Interview on RTL Boulevard.

PBS visiting Maastricht 2006

In 2006 a delegation of PBS US television stations visited André in Maastricht. André shows them around in Maastricht and it’s vicinity, visits the mayor of Maastricht and teaches them how to eat a salty herring the Dutch way.
